Frequently asked questions.

Where does your veg come from?

Almost all of our veg is grown in our abundant and ecological market garden spread over six acres of land at Oxen Park Farm. Oxen Park Farm is certfied Organic and Biodynamic so you can guarantee all the produce is grown in harmony with nature, with no chemicals or other nasties. Depending on how much we manage to grow and store, we sometimes have to supplement our own vegetables with produce from other local, organic growers in the leaner months to ensure you still receive a varied, quality and good value veg box each week.

What packaging does my veg come in?

We are trying our best to make sure that our packaging is as sustainable as our vegetables. Our sustainable jute bags are reused each week. Where we do need to use packaging (for example to keep salad leaves fresh) we use biodegradable or ecological packaging which can be reused (see below)

Can the packaging my veg comes in be reused?

Yes!

  • Please return our jute bags back to your collection point each week for us to reuse

  • Please clean, dry and return our clear biodegradable plastic bags inside your jute bags for us to reuse. As our veg is delivered for you unwashed for you to wash at home, it's ok for us to reuse bags as long as they are returned clean. Once you finish the contents of of your plastic bag, turn it inside out and using running water and a tiny bit of eco washing up liquid, rub off any mud or old veg residue and rinse off. Then leave to dry on a wooden spoon on your drying wrack, or peg up on the line. When these bags reach the end of their life, they will biodegrade in the landfill bin, or eventually compost in your compost, but they're not suitable to put in Teignbridge recycling.

  • We'll always reuse elastic bands if you return them- just save up a few in a ball rather than give us one at a time as they just get lost.

What if I don’t want something in my box?

Our boxes come with standard contents, however when you come to collect your box at our Ashton, Bovey, Chudleigh or Dunsford collection point, you can use our ‘Swap Box’. Simply take out the offending item that you don’t want from your bag, and take something you do like.

What if I’m away and can’t receive my box?

Our model works by people signing up for the whole year, but if you’re away don’t worry your veg won’t go to waste. It is a lovely idea to donate your box to a friend, neighbour, or whoever has agreed to look after the cat. We can also arrange for your box to be donated to our friends at the Teign Valley Community Larder, Chudfridge or Bovey Fridge. Please let us know by the Monday before at 8am. If there’s ever veg left over by the end of the week, we will recycle it in our compost, which feeds our soil for the next round of veg. If you’re going to be late and would like us to put your box out of the weather, please let us know.

What on earth is a CSA?

CSA - or Community Supported Agriculture - is a radical way of producing local food that shares the risk, rewards and joy of small-scale farming between the farmer and the consumer. We ask members to sign up to a year of our veg bags - and in return they get a share of the overall harvest each week. This saves the consumer money and provides greater security to us growers. Members are also encouraged to get stuck in at the farm at regular volunteer days and open days. Read more about CSAs at the CSA Network UK website. We see it as a vital way for people to connect with the food they eat while helping build rich soils and biodiversity in the beautiful Teign Valley.

How do I collect my veg?

Our veg bags will be ready for collection at one of our collection points across the Teign Valley on a Tuesday afternoon. We currently have collection points in Ashton, Chudleigh, Bovey Tracey, Christow and Dunsford. Our bags are all the same, so just help yourself to one of the right size. Look for the right coloured band if you’re not sure (red for small, white for medium and blue for large). If you’re running late, you have until Thursday morning to collect.

Please bring your jute bag back when you come the following week so we can reuse them. We’d love to start other local collection points in the Teign Valley, so if you have an idea of a place where we could drop off our boxes, please let us know!

How do I pay?

Our bank details are Teign Greens CIC. Sort Code: 08 92 99. Account Number: 65 97 62 18. We ask members to pay upfront for the year, or set up a monthly Standing Order at the beginning of their year’s membership. If you would like to pay in a different way, please contact us to arrange.

Do I need to make a commitment for a whole year?

New members can sign up for a four week trial to try out our produce and make sure the veg bags work for them. After your trial you’ll need to commit to a year of delicious veg bags from us. We understand circumstances change - so if you do need to leave (for example because you are moving away) we ask for two months notice so we can try and find someone to replace you on the scheme.
